This Is Why It's Self-Destructive Not To Forgive

I swear forgiveness is the most misunderstood word on the planet. You don’t do it for the people who upset you; you do it for yourself. It doesn’t mean that what they did to you is okay. It means you don’t want to hurt about it anymore.

Every time you think about what they did, it rips open that wound. You might as well pick up a baseball bat and slam yourself with it. They hurt you once, but you keep doing it to yourself every time you think about it.

Whether or not they apologise is irrelevant. Maybe they mean it; maybe they don’t. And even if they do, you can still keep pounding on yourself with that bat. Is that really supposed to be helpful?

Forgiveness means putting down the damned bat and getting on with your life. Period.

Spiritual Arts Mentor and Master Teacher, Liberty Forrest, guides you in discovering who you are, why you’re here, and how to follow that path.
