How To Get Rid of Your Frustration Right Now

We’ve all been there. Irritation leads to annoyance, which feeds on impatience and presto! Before you know it, you’re frustrated as hell and having a hard time biting your tongue and not tearing off the heads of innocent bystanders. 

What is exactly is frustration? It’s the awful feeling that something is blocking you from achieving something, from reaching a goal, from being heard, from making something happen. An obstacle of some sort stands between you and the end result you’re seeking. It’s like watching those tiny, plastic, cereal box, wind-up toys when they hit a wall and their arms and legs keep moving but they’re not going anywhere.

At least they don’t have to feel the awfulness of frustration. It sucks, doesn’t it?!

The thing is, the more frustrated you get, the harder it is to reach that goal. As soon as emotions flare, patience goes out the window and common sense is often not far behind. 

When you notice that familiar blood-pressure-raising “something” beginning to boil in your veins, stop. Stop thinking, stop reacting, stop speaking, stop moving. Just STOP. 

Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. I mean really deep. Hold it for a couple of seconds and let it go slowly through your mouth. Focus on allowing tension to leave your body. Imagine it flowing out your arms and hands, your legs and feet. 

Take another deep breath and repeat this process a few times. You’ll be amazed at how much this can help and it takes only seconds to do. It gives you a chance to reset or “reboot.” Do not speak, act or move until you feel like you’ve regained a sense of calm and are in a more neutral state again.
