AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR | PSYCHIC MEDIUM | STORYTELLER
With a background in the social work and counselling industries, I’ve spent many years supporting people through their most painful and life-changing experiences. I’m also a certified hypnotist, have worked in healing and energy modalities, and walked my own decades-long path of deep emotional healing and ongoing transformation.
Spiritually, I’m a lifelong psychic and medium, and I did frequent live “psychic phone-ins” for five years on the BBC, along with stage work as a medium in the UK.
But through it all, the common thread — the lifeline — has always been writing.
I’m an award-winning author, and along with more than a dozen non-fiction books, my articles have been published in newspapers and magazines internationally for many years.
I’ve also created numerous guided meditations, hypnosis audios, and other tools for self-help and spiritual practice. But these days, I’m focusing on what lights me up most: fiction.
Under my own name, I’ve published a unique family saga series with growing paranormal themes. The series spans the second half of the 1950s and explores how one family weathers tragedy and otherworldly experiences through a spooky, introductory novella, and three deeply emotional and compelling novels.
And writing as Ruby Ashford, I write uplifting later-in-life small-town romance novels — clean, cozy, heartfelt — with characters who have loved and lost, and are ready to believe in second chances. Ruby's world will soon expand to include a magical series of paranormal women’s fiction novels with romantic threads, beginning in autumn 2025.
And then… there’s Witchy.
She’s my quirky little cartoon character and sidekick, born in the Magical Blue Tree Forest under a full moon with scribbly turquoise hair and a purple dress and hat. But when her spells “go wonky” and she gets laughed out of the Forest, she loses everything and has to begin again — without her spells, without anything familiar, and without a clue how to do life outside the Forest. (But she makes other people laugh as she figures it out.)
Witchy now shares her own healing journey, helping others with her own endearing brand of charm and humour. She’s become the voice for the healing work I once did directly — and her stories, mishaps, and attempts to find her “inner magic” speak to the very human experience of losing everything and starting over.
Whether through heartfelt small-town romance, deep family sagas, or Witchy’s wacky wisdom, my work is rooted in what I know best:
Hope. Healing. Humour. And the magic that lives inside us, even when it feels like all is lost.
